US upstream methane fees: Assessing the impact of US waste emissions charges on upstream oil and gas producers
With the introduction of stricter methane regulations, the momentum for methane action in the United States is higher than ever. Historically, the scarcity and poor quality of methane emission data have posed significant obstacles to effective reduction measures. In recent years there has been a positive trend as an increasing number of operators have adopted on-site methane monitoring equipment and using additional measurement technologies like aviation and satellites.
This whitepaper will build on satellite-derived data to offer a preliminary evaluation of what more comprehensive methane emission accounting could entail in terms of charges if the proposed amendments to subpart W become effective.
